Company Description

Alba Chocolate makes bespoke chocolates and truffles.

Born from a simple love of good chocolate, Alba Chocolate makes ethical and delicious treats, lovingly crafted with the best possible ingredients. The founders love the wild, natural beauty of Scotland, and as members of 1% For the Planet, they donate 1% of their income — not just profit — directly to the John Muir Trust. A conservation charity, the John Muir Trust is dedicated to protecting and enhancing wild places in the UK. Alba is based in Newtonmore, in the Highlands of Scotland, and all of their chocolates are handmade with quality Fair Trade ingredients; no preservatives or artificial colors in sight.

Founders Gemma and Mehmet first got started making truffles for themselves. They were so good that when it came time to pick a new full-time venture, the two decided to start their own business. The couple is very transparent about what it takes to start and run a small business, and detail their story on their website and social media channels, including their new kitchen buildout (where they now offer chocolate making workshops!). The name “Alba” is both the Scottish Gaelic name for Scotland and a particularly bittersweet genre of love poem.
