Alter Eco offers organic, fair trade quinoa, as well as chocolate bars, clusters, and truffles.
The company employs “full circle sustainability,” which begins with choosing and tracking “clean” (organic, non-GMO) ingredients. Alter Eco invests in its small-scale and co-op farming relationships, ensuring all partners are fair trade certified, and providing them with targeted assistance for concerns that range from food security and biodiversity to gender equality. The company employs “carbon insetting” methods – forest and tree regeneration – to boost biodiversity and ultimately provide more opportunities for its farmers. Alter Eco is a pioneer in sustainable food packaging: the company worked with partners and manufacturers to launch the world’s first compostable, non-GMO, non-toxic candy wrappers, and invent the world’s first compostable stand-up pouch made from renewable, plant-based, non-GMO materials.
Alter Eco co-founders Mathieu Senard and Edouard Rollet, both French nationals, founded their company on a mission to pioneer a full circle approach to eating, farming, and doing business. In doing so, they hope to inspire others to do the same. When Senard and Rollet discovered that there was no sustainable food packaging option on the market, they set about inventing one of their own, and now lead a coalition of companies working to develop even more packaging solutions. In addition to its online shop, Alter Eco’s goods are readily available in major grocery stores, including Whole Foods Market and Kroger.
