Company Description

Bluey Merino is an Australian company selling Merino wool activewear.

They maintain close relationships with their Australian, family-owned ranches. None of the sheep are mulsed in the shearing process, a process that removes skin as well as wool. They select for growers who are not only ethical in their treatment of their sheep, but also foreground environmentally sustainable practices from grazing through to production. As a member of the 1% For The Planet network, they donate a minimum of 1% of their total profits to their partner, Bush Heritage, which works to conserve native Australian plants and wilderness.

For founder Andrew Ross, inspiration struck on the family farm. The seed of the idea that came to him visiting his father’s ultra fine wool farm, meshing with his over twenty years working within information technology and analyzing supply chains. Bluey Merino marries the logistics of sourcing sustainably with a kinship to the growers and their flocks. Ross visits his growers at shearing time to maintain quality — and relationships. The company has produced according to the Responsible Wool Standard since 2014.
