Eco Lips makes and sells a line of organic lip balm.
They launched in 2003, and were the first USDA Certified Organic lip balm on the market. Their balms are Fair Trade, gluten-free, and cruelty-free, and they work hard to source their ingredients from organic farms and sustainable businesses. The products are made with wind power offsets, and packaged in recyclable containers made from 40% recycled content or biodegradable materials. Eco Lips donates 1% of their profits to the organization Pencils of Promise, and also initiated Iowa’s largest solar project in 2004, to offset the energy consumption in the neighborhood around their factory.
Eco Lips’ origin story goes all the way back to the early 1990s, when co-founder Andrea Danielson started making small batches of natural lip balm for friends and family. A few years later, she met and married Steve Shriver — together, they launched their first product, and in less than a decade the duo had become a leading natural body care private label manufacturer. It was shortly thereafter that Eco Lips was born, created to cater to all sorts of lips and all sorts of concerns in a natural, environmentally friendly way. The balms are an extension of Andrea and Steve’s ideals: living a healthy and active lifestyle, holding a deep respect for the earth, and creating harmony in the world.
