The HimalaSalt mission is to create a culture of compassion, humanity, and sustainability with products that support physical well-being and provide social value. HimalaSalt donates 5% of profits to regenerative agriculture and youth education programs, and supports Willie Nelson’s FarmAid and Greenagers, all in pursuit of protecting the planet’s biodiversity and encouraging sustainable farming. HimalaSalt is produced in a 100% solar-powered, vegan, and allergen-free facility (cleansed with Dr. Bronner’s soap, another Good Company). That facility will produce (and therefore save) 1,000,000 kWh of energy over 25 years, keep 1,000 tons of CO2 out of the atmosphere, and uses energy-efficient LED lighting. The salts contain no additives and are non-GMO, gluten-free, and Kosher.
While HimalaSalt’s headquarters are on a small organic farm in the Berkshires, MA, the salt itself is sourced directly from the Himalayas. Founder Melissa Kushi believes Himalayan salt restores our natural alkaline balance with essential minerals and trace elements crucial to wellbeing. All of the products are produced in-house, and are high clarity and quality for a light, clean flavor. As a social entrepreneur, Melissa has a background in food: raised a farmer, she teaches soil building and sustainable growing methods, and has, among other endeavors, helped to create bamboo micro-industries in Africa and introduce Japanese heirloom soybeans to the U.S. in an effort to stem the growing presence of GMOs in the American food chain.
