Ninety Percent is a London-based contemporary women’s clothing company.
Launched in 2018, the company distributes 90% of profits to charitable causes (80%), its clothing manufacturers (5%), and brand leadership (5%). Customers are invited to vote for the cause they’d like their purchase to support, each of which focuses on safeguarding people and the planet. To date, the four causes receiving donations include two aiding children in developing or war-torn markets, and two supporting wildlife preservation. The company calculates how much each cause will receive at the end of the year.
Ninety Percent co-founder Shafiq Hassan was previously a successful factory owner in Bangladesh, producing clothing for H&M, Debenhams and New Look, among other global brands. The company now manufactures clothing in both Bangladesh and Turkey. Ninety Percent states that all its materials, which include organic cotton and Tencel, and manufacturing processes have been carefully selected and sourced from industry best-practice suppliers. The company is already getting noticed for its unusually high portion of profits donated to charity: British Vogue, Financial Times, and fashion blog Fashionista all covered the company at its launch.
