Company Description

Out of the Box Collective is a farm-to-home delivery service specializing in local, organic food.

The OTB mission is to promote fair working practices, support local producers, and encourage customers to cook nutritious, sustainable food. Their boxes and online marketplace are very unique, and more or less combine three different approaches to food — think farmers market meets meal kit meets CSA box. Out of the Box prioritizes buying local, organic, pesticide-free, and non-GMO foods whenever possible. Their meats are grass-fed and antibiotic-free, and they’re careful to provide allergy-friendly, gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options as well. Their deliveries use very little packaging, and OTB collects empty boxes, insulated bags, and ice packs for reuse whenever they make a new delivery. They’re currently partnering with Amazon Fresh to create a regional food hub of local, artisanal products.

Located in Southern California, Out of the Box has a relatively small carbon footprint because they source and deliver locally. Their speciality is their “Culinary Inspiration Box,” a curated, weekly option with themed selections from each food group. OTB is committed to transparency, and their site has profiles on each of their farmers and food-makers. The company was founded with the goal of inspiring people to get back into their kitchens and back around the table with their loved ones, to create lasting memories and build healthy lives. They were honored as “Best of the World” in Community by B Corp for three years running, and were also granted the B Corp Award by the Sustainable Business Council of LA in 2016.
