Stella McCartney’s eponymous fashion house designs women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, accessories, lingerie, eyewear, and fragrance, as well as clothing and sleepwear for children and babies. The company also produces performance sportswear for women through its partnership with adidas.
Stella McCartney uses data and research to proactively change its materials and sourcing practices in an effort to lead the fashion industry by example in protecting the planet. All of the company’s products – including those produced in partnership with adidas – have been PVC-free since 2010. Stella McCartney now also uses regenerated, rather than virgin, cashmere yarn for all knitwear. A lifelong vegetarian, Stella McCartney does not use any leather, fur, exotic skins or feathers in her designs, and she does not use any glues that come from animal origins. Regularly released capsule collections and advertising campaigns further raise awareness for major environmental causes.
The company continues to pursue new partnerships and find ways to incorporate ever-more-sustainable materials. In 2017 alone, the company created an athletic shoe using performance yarn made from recycled ocean plastic; launched a fragrance using biomimicry technology to capture scent without picking a single flower stem; used yarn made from fishnets and other nylon waste to make select signature bags; and announced a partnership with Bolt Threads, a company that engineers new fibers to develop cleaner manufacturing processes.
