Beginning in 1999 in a garage in Boulder, the Wallaroo Hat Company was the product of a desire to bring Australian sun protection, colorful, broad brimmed hats, to the men, women and children of the United States.
With more people diagnosed with skin cancer over the past three decades than all other cancers combined, founders Stephanie Carter and Lenya Shore wanted to present a simple solution. Wallaroo hats are made with tightly-woven fabrics that block out 97.5% of UV rays, and the Skin Cancer Foundation recommends them as an effective UV protectant. Committed to the cause, Wallaroo Hat Company donates 1% of profits to organizations that support skin cancer research, education and prevention.
Involved in their local communities as well, the two founders have used their company’s success to support the building of a new cancer center at Boulder Community Foothills Hospital, they have also been recognized by the Best of Boulder Business Hall of Fame.
