Everlane is a leader in price transparency, providing a breakdown of the production costs for its goods. Importantly, the company’s price transparency provides breakdowns for labor costs and other critical information that can provide an indicator on fair labor and production practices. Everlane has also touted its factory transparency, providing information including general geographic locations, names where they do not feel it will pose a competitive threat, and additional color on each for customers to read.
Michael Preysman founded Everlane with Jesse Farmer in 2010. Within its first year, the company had received $1.1 million in seed funding, and opened up for business with a referral invite list that grew to 60,000 subscribers in the first five days of operation. The company has since opened a brick-and-mortar store in New York, and launched a long-awaited denim collection – hailed for its factory’s sustainable water and dye treatment and recycling processes – in 2017.
