London-based Jollie’s makes striped, speckled, and color-blocked socks. Customers can choose to have their socks packaged in a pull-tab can for a unique gift, or even sign up for a monthly sock subscription.
With every pair of Jollie’s socks purchased, a pair is donated to a homeless person in need. The company also works to bring opportunities to people transitioning out of homelessness. In October 2017, the company announced the launch of its “Fulfillment House,” an apprenticeship program for candidates nominated by Jollie’s charitable partners. The program provides each apprentice an opportunity to gain valuable work experience, as well as exposure, specifically, to small business life.
On its website, Jollie’s explains the motivation behind its buy one, give one model: “Fresh socks might not seem like a life-changer, but for those walking the streets day and night, foot health is essential. Unlike other items of clothing, socks are rarely donated to homeless shelters, and fly out the minute they’re given.” Jollie’s has relationships with charities and shelters all over England, and provides customers a choice on the region to which their donations are made at the point of purchase.
