Oliberté is a sustainable footwear brand specializing in leather shoes and accessories like wallets, backpacks and weekend bags.
Oliberté supports workers’ rights in sub-Saharan Africa by employing artisans at a fair wage in their factory in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. They employ 60% women and provide opportunities for worker unions, fair breaks, and full benefits. Oliberté has been Fair Trade Certified since 2013, the first footwear factory in the world to earn this certification. Since acquiring their own factory in 2012, Oliberté has had full control over how their goods are made and sourced locally, partnering with African suppliers, farmers, and craftsmen as often as possible. Oliberté is also part of 1% For The Planet, meaning 1% of all proceeds go to environmental causes.
Buzzfeed has lauded Oliberté and its commitment to selling “sustainable shoes that are good for your feet and still look stylish.”
