Sword & Plough

"Repurposed for a purpose."

Company Description

Sword & Plough offers a selection of American-made bags, jewelry, apparel and accessories for men and women. All Sword & Plough products are made from military surplus materials.

Sword & Plough aims to empower veteran employment, reduce waste, and strengthen shared civil-military understanding. The company donates 10% of its profits to veteran non-profit organizations, in addition to making select in-kind donations to support veteran-related initiatives focused on employment, education, health, housing, and leadership. Sword & Plough says it has supported more than 65 veteran jobs throughout its business and through manufacturing partners, and has re-purposed more than 30,000 pounds of military surplus materials to produce its goods.

Sword & Plough’s name originates from an old saying, “to turn swords into plough shares,” meaning: “to take military technologies and materials and apply them to peaceful civilian applications.” The company is getting noticed as a small business on the rise: Sword & Plough was the Grand Prize winner of the FedEx Corporation’s 2017 Small Business Grant Contest, the winnings from which reportedly allowed the company to expand production, improve its supply chain and inventory management, and scale its social impact.
